Great fight between Toivonen and Cazaux in the first leg of the 10th Rally de Asturias Histórico

Under very difficult conditions the first stage of the 10th Rally de Asturias Histórico has been played, with intense fog and constant rain that has put the very difficult stages to the more than eighty teams that took the start from the Pravia closed park. After the dispute of the first four special stages, the general classification of the section of the European Sporting Championship could not be tighter, since only two tenths of a second separates the Finnish driver Harri Toivonen from the French Serge Cazaux, both with identical Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4. After them, more than 36 seconds, is the Spanish team formed by Jesus Ferreiro and Xavier Anido, with a Ford Escort MK2. The current Spanish rally champion for historic vehicles, Cele Foncueva suffered turbo problems in his Ford Sierra Cosworth that relegated him to eighth position, more than four minutes behind the leader.

Regarding the National Sporting Championship, Serge Cazaux leads the classification ahead of Ferreiro and Antonio Sainz, the latter with his new Subaru Legazy Sedan 4WD. The local team formed by Manuel Antonio García and Agustín Ramos, with a Ford Escort MK2, are at the top of the general classification of Category 5 of the National and the regional contest, but they are also the fastest team among all the teams registered in the Speed section, surpassing Harri Toivonen by 22.9 seconds. Among the Youngtimers, the fastest were Daniel Mieres and Rai Fernández (Renault Clio Sport), with a margin of 26 seconds over Alberto Aldo and Eva Suárez (Seat Cordoba WRC).

On the other hand, José Ramón Campos and his co-driver Raúl Gutiérrez lead both the classification of the Spanish Sport Regularity Championship and that of the regional contest aboard his Porsche Carrera RS 3.0. Like Campos-Gutiérrez, the team consisting of José Ramón Castillón and Concha Velazquez (VW Corrado) are also the first classified in both classifications, in this case, those corresponding to Regularity.

In the morning, the teams will face the remaining seven sections, such as the double passes to the special "Salas" and "Soto del Barco" and three passes to "Pravia", whose output is in the center of the location.
